When to get it checked
Signs your tires need attention
Check your tires about once a month. These are the signs to look for.

Low tread
Tread at or near the wear bars, or failing the penny test.

Uneven wear
More wear on one edge, both edges or the center of the tread.

Pressure warning
The tire pressure light is on, or a tire keeps losing air.

Bulges or cracks
Sidewall bulges, deep cuts or cracks should be looked at promptly.
Tip: write down when it happens and what you noticed, and tell us when you call.

Put a penny into a groove with Lincoln's head pointing down. If you can see the top of his head, the tread is likely at or below 2/32", the legal minimum in most US states.
Use the pressures on the sticker inside the driver's door, not the maximum printed on the tire, and check them when the tires are cold.
Too much or too little air, wheel alignment or worn suspension parts can all cause uneven wear. An inspection shows which.
